My Version of Heaven: Details From Day #1 in NYC

Good morning Upper East Siders... Jay here. :)

Okay okay, that's Gossip Girl's opener, but I couldn't help myself.

I cannot tell you how in love with this city I am. There is so much to do, and so many amazing people! Yesterday, we ventured into Central Park, made a pit-stop at the venue where Chuck and Blair finally tied the knot, walked through the Financial District, Times Square, and last (but certainly not least) we made our way to the Fashion District!

Oh, and I rode the subway. Not as bad as I anticipated, but it will take time to learn.

There's an H&M that could make any fashionista drool, a Forever21 the size of Atlantis, and an Express store that... I can't even describe it to you.

So, I'll put it in pictures. :)
Inside of H&M. The most affordable, yet trendy, store there is! Besides Forever 21. This place is a whole tower! (Mainly corporate offices)

FOUR floors, people. FOUR.
G = Latest trends, then B1, B2, B3 each have their own themes. (Men's, workout essentials, accessories, swimwear, girls, boys, pajamas, lounge wear, etc.)

Express. Yeah, it's huge.

And although I am a Starbucks lover to boot, I found a coffee shop right across the street from work that I am absolutely in love with! It's called The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, and the soy chai latte I had was to die for. (I will admit, anywhere I go I always get a soy chai... #SorryBoutIt)

Me, uhm, awkwardly enjoying my beverage.

Also, I got my first experience at an NYC theater. Movie theater, that is. We went to go see Maleficent, and although I'm partial to Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie KILLED IT.

#Flawless

But, before that, we went to dinner at a place called "Mee Noodles." It was so good, and the best news is: they deliver, and it's only a block away from me.

Orange chicken w/ brown rice, and "Yang Chow" fried rice (sliced chicken, pork, shrimp, eggs, and fried rice). We also had a appetizer of crispy wonton pieces with a yummy sweet and sour sauce.

And more importantly...  I found the place in which I will be working at. On the 8th floor of the World Wide Apparel Resources Inc. building (yes, that's correct, WORLD).

Photo: Well, I found it! This is the building where I will be interning at. @stacyigel I'll see you on Monday! #JayTakesNY #XOXO
Me, standing in front of 1411 Broadway, the building where BMG USA is located. See you on Monday! ;)
There is so much to talk about, but there is so much to do... so I'm going to stop typing so that I can look decent for DAY #2 in NYC! Blog will be updated tonight or tomorrow morning. :)

Thank you so much for reading, share this blog if you wish! I love sharing my adventures (mainly to prove that Sparta girls can make it big, DREAM ladies, DREAM.SAY.DO.) :)

Love you all so much!

XOXO,

Jayy (or Jay, it goes both ways) Fabulous

It's Official: I'm in NYC! #Surreal

I haven't blogged in awhile, so I'm just going to catch you up on what has been going on lately!

If you're my friend on Facebook, you're probably about sick of the 1,353,301 pictures that I have posted over the past 24 hours (or all the time for that matter). :)

Basically... I LOVE it here. I've wanted to come here for years, and to be here for fashion is just the icing on the cake.

I do not start my internship until Monday, where I will meet with Stacy and the rest of the BMG team to work on some huge projects, meetings, events, and shows coming up! I will keep you all informed to the best of my ability.

I'll be the assistant to the following people: the Social Media/Special Projects Manager, the Executive Community Assistant, and to (the founder herself) Stacy.

Some of my responsibilities are as follows:

    - Social media up-keep/maintenance (brainstorming ideas for posts, check on comments, see what other social media opportunities are available, put together reports based on the feedback received, and research new apps related to the fashion industry, posting to Instagram/Tumblr/YouTube/Twitter, etc.)
*A special project will also be taking place in this department, but I'll talk more about that as it unfolds.

   - Assistant to the assistant (inventory, expenses, personalization, show-room maintenance, photoshop, checking on press-books for meetings)

   - Assistant to the founder/CCO, aka Stacy (assist with PR/marketing/events, photo-shoots, campaigns, etc.)

I start work this coming Monday! My mother and Steve are here until then, so I'm just going to tour the city with them until my start date, then they will leave and I'll be on my own!

So excited for this journey, as I learn more about independence and transition into the woman I know that I'm destined to be.

On another note, I already have a food recommendation as of day #1! MexiBBQ is absolutely delicious, their BBQ brisket tacos were phenomenal. Just the right amount of tenderness, mixed with their signature barbeque sauce. All mixed with cilantro and fresh onions!

They have a variety of options, from southern fried chicken to turkey quesadillas! They are also known for their ribs and other barbeque favorites. If you're in NYC, check it out! They just opened a new location on 37 W. 30th St. #11. :)

BBQ Brisket Tacos w/ a side of coleslaw and creamy corn.

As I become more NYC savvy, I'll post more recommendations on food, shopping, and of course updates on my internship!

More to come, stay tuned!

XOXO,

Jayy Fabulous

The Strength of True Friendship: The Beauty of Having a Best Friend

This summer, I'll be gone for a total of 77 days.

1,848 hours. 110,880 minutes. 6,652,800 seconds.

As the time begins to pass, my departure date for this summer is getting closer and closer.

And the closer it gets, the more nervous, sad, excited, and anxious I become.

The only sadness that follows this journey is that I will be away from the ones that I love for the entire summer.  No lake with my family, no girls nights, no working as a carhop (okay, that I can live without), no boyfriend time, and no longer getting to see my best friend everyday.

Over the years, I've learned that people will always come and go.  You'll make friends and even acquaintances, but chances are only a select few will end up being invited to your wedding.

But through failed friendships, you begin to realize who is really worth your time, and who was probably just a waste of it.

Okay, that sounded harsh, but you get the point.

There is a single quote that is keeping me at peace through this time: "It's not about being inseparable, it's about being separated and nothing changes."

Basically, if someone drops you due to distance, they probably were not a huge part of your life in the first place.

This is basically to tell you about how amazing my best friend is. Harlie Kendall Griggs, you've been there since day #1, and I cannot thank you enough for being the most caring, generous, and loving person I know.  She's been my rock and my constant cheerleader through this whole process, and pretty much has played that role for the past few years.

Road trips, crying over boys, being lazy, going out, basically living together, sushi dates, getting the "are they a couple or just really close?" look...

We've been through a lot together, and even through a few years of questionable friendship, we managed to build a friendship that can withstand anything.  I know that when I come back from my summer in NYC, we'll be exactly where we were when I left. I love you gorgeous!

This sounds like a "lezbehonest" post. Gross. But basically, it's a "sisters by choice" kind of thing.

I think it is important to build a lot of friendships, but there will usually be one out of them all that will be your "go-to" person. It's a blessing in itself to have someone you can count on for literally anything.

So when I'm lost on the streets of New York, having a bad day, or when I've bought a pair of overpriced shoes... I think it's pretty obvious who will be one of the first people to know.

So build friendships, get to know people, laugh with the crowd, and take a look around. Because trust me, life isn't much fun when you try roaming through it alone.

Find your other girlfriend half, you won't be sorry. :)

Shoes and Starbucks,

Jayy Fabulous
